So, the bad news is that my internet wasn’t working for the past several days…
The good news is that this time the internet being down had nothing to do with any more apartment flooding (which, the more I think about, seems pretty sad that my apartment not flooding lately is something that deserves mention as good news).
No, the reason for my internet troubles is now due to a router that appears to no longer work.
Currently i am running the ethernet cable from the modem directly into my computer, which is thereby allowing me access to the internet…however, it is also (due to the length of said cable and location of the modem) necessitating my sitting on the floor in my room in a rather uncomfortable postion in order to type this post (let it not be said that i don’t go to great lengths to keep you, my faithful readers updated on my life).
I suppose in the next few days a new router will be purchased and hopefully wireless internet access will once again be operational. To be honest, I was actually beginning to go through internet withdrawal…not being able to get online and get access to everything that’s going on in the world for a few days really was quite difficult. In fact, had I not been able to get access soon, I might have resorted to taking my computer down to Starbucks or something in order to get online…of course, that would have meant I would have been one of those people who spend an extended amount of time in Starbucks sitting in front of my computer with a cup of coffee pretending like i’m doing something important, something which i always am bothered by whenever i’m in one of their establishments (no matter what anyone tells me I am of the firm belief that you cannot get much accomplished by choosing Starbucks as your workspace - or for that matter anyplace where coffee and scones are sold in mass quantities).
Anyways….until i get my wireless back posting might remain somewhat sporadic…but do not be sad, instead rejoice in the glory that is this post.
Now that I’ve gotten my explanation out of the way i’d like to take a few moments to address some comments I received about a post i made a few weeks ago (about Tony Soprano and his use - or rather lack thereof - of EZ Pass).
My friend Jeff wrote:
I would have to disagree about the tony soprano ez pass thing. I actually think he would prefer not to have easy pass, because that would enable a way to track where he was traveling since it deducts from his account when he travels through. Seeing the nature of his business, one would think that although he would not want to sit in traffic at a toll booth on the turnpike, he realizes that the risk/reward of ez pass just is not worth it.
Well, Jeff…I have considered your position, but i would have to respectfully disagree…I was thinking about this a lot, and I came to the conclusion that if Tony were to take the time to think about EZ Pass and reach the conclusions that you have posited above, he would also be able to realize that EZ Pass does not track people’s whereabouts, merely account activity. Therefore, he could set the account up through one of his business holdings (like the garbage truck company - which he also relies on for his health insurance and W2 or the Bada Bing - which he relies on for his strippers) as opposed to setting up a personal family account, and then he wouldn’t need to concern himself with whether or not his activity could ever be directly tied to his personal whereabouts.
In other news, i’m not sure if any of you have read about the guy in Oklahoma accussed of killing a 10 year old girl as part of his elaborate plan to “kidnap a person, rape them, torture them, kill them, cut off their head, drain the body of blood, rape the corpse, eat the corpse then dispose of the organs and bones.”
if you haven’t yet heard about it feel free to check out the story here: http://www.cnn.com/2006/LAW/04/16/underwood.ap/index.html
the reason I bring this up is that the accused, 26 year old Kevin Ray Underwood, apparently kept a blog in which he discussed some of his fantasies, including cannibalism.
now…don’t get me wrong, i’m glad that this guy (if he’s guilty - which considering the dead girl in his bathtub seems likely) has been arrested. And, of course, i’m all for freedom of speech and using the medium of a blog to let others know what’s on your mind and all…but, i think it’s safe to say that when your blog contains posts like, “If people knew the kinds of things I think about anymore, I’d probably be locked away. No probably about it, I know I would be.” Well, then it’s probably time to stop posting said thoughts onto a blog whose very purpose is precisely to let others know what sort of things you are thinking about.
I don’t know…maybe that’s just me. Rest assured however, i have no thoughts - stated or otherwise - about planning to kidnap a person, rape them, torture them, kill them, cut off their head, drain the body of blood, rape the corpse, eat the corpse then dispose of the organs and bones (that is of course other than that the all of the above is wrong).
